Eastbound


PASSAU TO BUDAPEST

Day 1 | Passau, Germany. Embark. Welcome to Passau, also known as the 'City of Three Rivers', being situated at the confluence of the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers in lower Bavaria. Here you will embark on your deluxe Emerald Waterways ship waiting for you on the Danube River. You'll be welcomed on board by your Captain and crew and guided to your stylish suite or stateroom. Once you've settled into your cabin explore all of the ship's fantastic facilities, like the on-board swimming pool and bar, spacious Sun Deck which offers brilliant panoramic views of your surroundings. Your Cruise Director will host a port talk this evening to explain upcoming sightseeing and answer questions. Then enjoy your first night dinner on board followed by evening entertainment. (D)

Day 2 | Passau. Cobblestone streets and graceful arcades welcome you in the beautiful city of Passau. On this morning’s walking tour, stroll through the old town’s narrow alleys and see the hilltop Oberhaus Fortress from the town below. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes. Return for lunch and an afternoon cruising along the Danube River towards Linz. (B,L,D)

Day 3 | Linz, Austria. Austria’s third largest city is situated on either side of the Danube River. Your city tour takes in the impressive "Pestsäule", the high column built to remember the victims of the bubonic plague epidemic of the 14th century, followed by the market squares. The rest of the day is at leisure. Optional Tour — Excursion to the Hallein Salt Mines or day trip to the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov (additional expense). (B,L,D)

Day 4 | Melk. Dürnstein. Situated within Austria’s wine–growing region, Melk is home to an imposing 900–year old Benedictine Abbey which features Austria’s finest Italian baroque architecture. Later the ship sails through the spectacular Wachau Valley and on to Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region. Optional Tour — Guided biking tour along the Danube River (additional expense). (B,L,D)

Day 5 | Vienna. Welcome to Vienna, the “City of Waltzes”. Today we explore Austria’s capital beginning with a drive along the Ringstrasse, where we will see Vienna’s world famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Spanish Riding School, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Optional Tour — Exclusive Viennese concert with music from Mozart and Strauss and/or Schonbrunn Palace tour (additional expense). (B,L,D)

Day 6 | Vienna. Enjoy a full day at leisure in Vienna. Visit the catacombs under St Stephen’s Cathedral, stroll the shopping streets and stop for a world famous Viennese coffee and cake, or marvel at the beautiful gardens of the Belvedere Palace. Day 7 | Budapest, Hungary. Budapest is Eastern Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan city. Enjoy a guided tour of the city sights including the Royal Palace of Buda, hilltop castle complex with Fisherman’s Bastion and the Matthias Church, and the Chain Bridge linking Buda and Pest. This evening the ship will take you for a night-time cruise along the Danube, whilst enjoying a traditional Hungarian dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 8 | Budapest. Disembark. After a delicious buffet breakfast to prepare you for the day ahead, it’s time to say your goodbyes to your fellow guests, the crew and your Captain before you’re transferred to the airport and your journey home begins. (B)
