What's the most asked question from new river cruisers?
It's: “What type of cabin should I buy?”
Tauck Loft StateroomAre you done with big ship ocean cruises? Ready to enjoy your first river cruise aboard a more intimate, all-inclusive, and luxurious river ship? Have you talked to people who may have done a river cruise and been told that there are only two types of cabins on river boats — window staterooms (called riverview) and balcony staterooms? That the only difference is that balcony cabins cost more?

While that may be factually accurate, there’s much more to understand about the variety of cabin types, sizes, and styles offered by each river cruise line. We know it can be a bit overwhelming for new river cruisers. That’s why our Premier team got together to write what we feel is the most comprehensive overview available: “How to Choose the Right Stateroom.” Check out our article...

River cruising’s hottest destination is the Douro River.
Douro ValleyStarting in Spain and winding through Portugal, the Douro River (Or, as it is known by those living along her banks, “the river of gold.”), will make you fall in love. The Douro isn’t one of the rivers that you instantly think about when planning a river cruise, but it should be as it is the MOST IN DEMAND river cruise in all of Europe.

From its rolling hills covered in steeply terraced, lush green vineyards to grand historic structures, and an endless array of engaging vistas, Portugal’s charm will flow into your consciousness, seducing you slowly without you realizing it. By the time you’ve fully explored the Douro’s wondrous valleys and friendly villages, you’ll find yourself completely and hopelessly in love with the River of Gold. A word of warning, 2017 Douro cruises (with a few exceptions) are already sold out. Please plan now to enjoy one for 2018 and book far in advance. PREMIER PERK... When you book, mention the Douro article and we'll PAY YOUR SHIPBOARD TIPS!

Off-season river cruising is a big Win-Win!
Holiday Markets River CruisesThe most in demand and expensive months for river cruises are June and September. So, why do very experienced travelers choose to travel off season? Here’s the short list of why: the cruise is far less costly; air flights are far less costly and you can use your miles; the destination is far less crowded; far fewer long lines at major attractions; off-season travelers enjoy much lower prices on everything, including restaurants, admissions, and even shopping.

For the best, least expensive off-season river cruise of them all, why not enjoy a festive Holiday Markets cruise? Holiday Market river cruises are so popular they sold out early in 2016. They start just before Advent (around Nov. 20) and run through late December. There are also cruises over Christmas-New Year’s. If you have teenagers, this is a remarkable experience you’ll all remember forever, and a great, inexpensive family vacation.

Imagine the fun of spending part of the holiday season sailing along the Danube, Rhine or Seine and immersing yourself in the small towns and villages along their banks or in Budapest, Prague, Paris, Vienna or Amsterdam. Enjoy a hot cup of Glühwein (pronounced like glue-vine) as you stroll through the glorious Holiday Markets, each so different offering their wares under a canopy of colorful lights and stars. Holiday Market and Holiday Season river cruises begin at just $1899pp. Premier has a special holiday treat, just for you... When you book, mention this article and we'll PAY YOUR SHIPBOARD TIPS, too!

New, fine dining innovations on river ships.
Innovations in DiningMy wife and I are heading to Europe in April to explore and enjoy a few days in Provence. We'll then relax on an exciting food and wine-focused Rhone and Saone river cruise aboard Emerald’s beautiful new ship, the Liberté. Cruising north from Arles to Lyon, the gastronomic capital of France, we'll be indulging our senses with fun excursions and (quite) a few decadent meals.

However, during vacation planning, we realized that with all of our travel experience, we had never dined in a Michelin-starred restaurant! That type of fine dining is expensive, even with a very strong dollar, but we decided to splurge and take the plunge while in France. In Lyon, we plan on splurging at two of the most famous Michelin-starred restaurants.

Now you may or may not be excited by our gastronomic foray, but you should be very excited about the continued dining innovations aboard today’s river ships. Over the last several years, there has been a paradigm shift from merely “eating” on a river ship... “eating” has now evolved to creative, fine dining experiences on many of the premium river cruise lines. In fact, starting this year, when you book one of Crystal River Cruise's new ships, you, too, will dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant as a part of your river cruise experience. And, best of all, it is included in your cruise price!
