Uniworld Boutique Collection River Cruises Officially Launches the 160-Passenger SS Antoinette at Her Christening in Amsterdam!

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises officially launched the 160-passenger S.S. Antoinette, sister ship to the River Beatrice, on March 19 in Amsterdam. The luxury ship was christened by Antoinette “Toni” Tollman, daughter of Stanley Tollman, chairman of Uniworld parent Travel Corp. Toni Tollman also designed the interior of the new ship, which features original works of art, mosaics and antique furnishings echoing an 18th-century French style. While its furnishings are antique, the Antoinette has very modern technology and amenities not found on other river cruise ships.

Set to sail the Rhine River on a “Castles along the Rhine” itinerary starting on March 27, the Antoinette is Uniworld's largest and most luxurious ship to date. It is 443 feet long and 37.5 feet wide. Uniworld decided to use the additional space to create more spacious staterooms and suites for guests, so there will be a minimal capacity increase in passengers. Most of the 73 staterooms measure 196 square feet, with 20 staterooms offering 163 square feet of space. There are eight suites measuring 294 square feet and one double room Owner's Suite at 391 square feet. Deck 4 suites and staterooms feature open-air private balconies. With a touch of a switch, a window glass can be raised to turn those balconies into completely enclosed conservatories during cooler weather. Suites on the Deck 3 feature French balconies, which also have windows that can be raised or lowered.

Other innovations include the first indoor heated swimming pool on a river boat, located in the stern on Deck 3 and featuring a swimming resistance jet. Also new on the ship’s top deck is the enclosed Bar du Leopard and L’Orangerie conservatory. The bar and L’Orangerie, which serves light breakfast and lunch, can both be retracted into the ship when it passes under low bridges. The top deck also features metal yard furniture with plush pillows and umbrellas. Yet another innovation is a 20-seat movie theater located on Deck 1. The two-story atrium and reception area centers around a chandelier of blue and white crystal that was originally in New York’s Tavern on the Green restaurant.

The S.S. Antoinette was designed by the same team responsible for decorating the River Beatrice and all of Uniworld's ships, as well as Travel Corporation's Red Carnation Hotel Collection. Beatrice Tollman, godmother and namesake of Uniworld's River Beatrice, and president of Red Carnation Hotel Collection, joined with her daughter, Antoinette Tollman, godmother and namesake of the Antoinette to create unique dining, lounge and accommodation spaces paying homage to 18th-century French design.

Each stateroom is furnished in regal opulent color schemes and rich fabrics. All suites and staterooms have handmade Savoir of England beds, now used in all Red Carnation Hotels and onboard Uniworld’s ships, with headboards of various designs. All marble bathrooms, complete with large showers, feature L'Occitane bath and body products and thick towels from Christy’s of England. READ MORE  about Uniworld river cruises.
