Amadeus River Cruises
Cruise Line Review

Amadeus River Cruises is a unique and enjoyable river cruise experience.
For the past 30 years Amadeus (a European-based, family-owned river cruise company) has plied the rivers and waterways of Europe, mostly servicing luxury-oriented European customers. In fact, Amadeus was so well thought of that many fledgling U.S. start-up river cruise lines chartered Amadeus ships in the 1990's rather than build their own.

In addition to their well known Danube and Rhine cruises, Amadeus also sails the fabulous Rhone and Saone rivers through the Burgundy and Provence regions of France, and what we call the "Magnificent Europe" trip from Amsterdam to Budapest on the Rhine, Main and Danube. They also cruise the delightful Moselle River. Amadeus is an English language cruise line and everyone on board speaks English and all communications are in English.

Amadeus and Abercrombie & Kent
team up in 2014.

To give you a hint of the quality of the product: the extremely upscale U.S. tour operator, Abercrombie and Kent, is chartering 12 cabins EACH aboard the Brilliant, Silver, and new Symphony ships for over 20 river cruises on the Danube, Main, Rhine, and France's Rhone and Saone rivers in 2014. Need we say more about the quality and premium-nature of Amadeus when A&K entrusts them with their small group (24 lucky guests!) tours?!

The Amadeus standard of excellence is all-encompassing.
The Amadeus Cruise Lines of today is a modern, multi-ship, multi-destinational premium river cruise experience catering to river cruise enthusiasts from all over the world. The owners and crew alike still base their operations on the basic foundations old-world style, elegance, and the epitomy of personal service. All of these traits are the hallmark of their hospitality and ships. Amadeus ships display that elegance in the carefully selected, but contemporary furnishings throughout the public areas and in the spacious accommodations. Every ship reminds one of a deluxe resort hotel.

Amadeus river cruise ships and voyages are known for their cultural and environmental sensibilities, superb onboard service and a professionally-trained, English-speaking staff. Staterooms are all outside facing, comfortably furnished and have large panoramic windows which afford incomparable views of the ever changing landscapes. Most staterooms on the upper decks also have French balconies, providing a delightful open-air experience.

Amadeus offers guests a unique way to experience their river cruise vacation.
Amadeus structures its cruises somewhat differently than most U.S. river cruise lines in that shore excursions are not automatically included into the cruise, but are an add-on feature. While on it's face you may say, "that's strange," their logic is very sound. Not everyone wants to do [pay for] every shore excusion if they have been to a place, say like Vienna before. A guest may prefer to explore on their own at their own pace. By making shore excursions á la carte, you don't pay for excursions you don't want; for the ones you do elect to purchase, they are very affordable.

Another very nice point of differentiation between Amadeus and other lines are the number roundtrip cruises they offer that make air flights much more affordable. For example, most lines offer Nuremberg to Budapest and visa versa. With Amadeus, you can do the trip roundtrip out of Passau [Munich] and save a bit on air flights.

Amadeus bicycle trips and classical music themed river cruises.
Where most lines offer complimentary bicycles to us while onboard, Amadeus offers comprehensive bike-themed river cruises along the majestic Rhine River. Folks, these are not just bike rides along the river, these bike-focused river cruises offer expert local guides on each tour, minibus support teams that stay with you the entire day, fun picnics, and some of the best 24-gear touring bikes with gel-saddle seats of any river cruise line. The bike trips are between 12 and 25 miles in length. Low season, cruise only rates for these 7-night bike-themed river cruises begin at a mere, $1595pp.

If you are into classical music, Amadeus offers what we believe are the absolute best classical music-themed trips of any river cruise line. You can elect to enjoy a Rhine or Danube River cruise and be immersed in classical music aboard one of these exciting voyages. Imagine the opera in Budapest, special concerts in Vienna, Bratislava and Melk. Or if it's the Rhine, experience private concerts in Strasbourg, Heidelberg, or in evening performances aboard your marvelous ship. Generally, the musical-themed cruises operate only in June, and they do book very quickly. Prices for the 7-night trips begin at just $1695pp.

If you're looking for a very rewarding, enriching river cruise with true European charm, then we think an Amadeus River cruise will provide you both an excellent value, and a remarkable product.
