MOSELLE RIVER CRUISES
Medieval villages. Great wines. Incredible vistas. All await.

A river cruise on Germany's Moselle River is one of those river cruises with a dreamlike quality.
Never traveling in a straight line, it loops and twists and winds its way around for over 200 miles from the very southwestern most part of Germany near Trier to where it enters the Rhine River at Koblenz, Germany. If you want to get away from it all (And, who doesn’t?). If you enjoy taking a restful and relaxing vacation surrounded by stunning views everywhere you look. If you're a wine novice or a wine connoisseur and enjoy visiting quaint medieval towns. Well, look no further! A Moselle river cruise is for you, because it will seem that around every bend of thi shimmering river there's another fairytale town or medieval village set amidst steep hills covered with vineyard after vineyard for you to discover and explore.

This should not be one’s first river cruise, but that being said it does have very wide appeal, especially to those romantics among us still long for the romance that Old World Europe can still inspire. It’s also a perfect river cruise choice for who would enjoy a fine pairing of delectable foods and wines that are perfectly married to the breathtaking scenery that awaits you at every bend in the Moselle.

A Moselle River cruise will provide all interested in dramatic photo opportunities, whether you're a novice or professional the vistas, the Baroque architecture, and the delightful medieval villages and towns will keep you busy late into the evening. And, if the weather is good (as it usually is), most of the river cruise lines do a deck-side barbeque complete with fresh lobster and other local seafood’s. We suggest leaving the doors to your balcony open in the spring and early summer evenings to allow the delightful aromatics of the grape blossoms and the fields of lavender to drift in – life is good! You may find yourself missing sleep on a river cruise down the Moselle as you will not want to miss anything, not the quaint hillside town such as Cochem, nor the castles riding high above the river. On the other hand, you may find yourself getting very sleepy as you taste and enjoy one delicious Riesling after another. You’ll visit Bernkastel, a 500 year old wine-making city with what we feel are the best Rieslings in the world. Not only is the wine exceptional, and yes you’ll get ample opportunity to try it at the winery and aboard your ship, but you won’t believe how interesting these 500 year old wineries are

A few of our other favorite spots along the Moselle include picturesque hillside town of Cochem which is most known for the Reichsburg Castle which provides some of the most incredible vistas on the Moselle. Where else but the Moselle could you get a guided tour from a local government official? Well, it’s true. In Cochem the mayor has been known to greet visitors and take them on a wine tasting tour! If your cruise brings you to the tiny yet delightful town of Zell, Germany, famous for its Zeller Schwarze Katz (Black Cat) wine, not only will the mayor greet you but the local children, known informally as the “black cats”, will come out and treat you to a special song and dance performance.

For those with a bit more time, the delightful Moselle can be incorporated into longer, 14-28 day cruises that allow you to take in as much or as little as you desire beginning in Amsterdam and traveling down to Budapest. You'll also want to discuss the available “included” land programs that will allow you to spend a few extra days in your choice of phenomenal cities like Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Bucharest, Amsterdam or Berlin.

Our favorite time of the year to travel is the early fall when the wine harvest is in full swing — but the best values can be found in the early spring and the late fall. So come and enjoy a cruise on the Rhine’s “little sister.” The summer days of July and August can be a bit warm, but if travel with layerable clothing, you’ll be just fine. And remember, all river cruise ships sold at Premier are fully air-conditioned.

Whether it’s relaxing in the comfort of your deluxe stateroom while sipping a chilled glass of wine, or enjoying the stunning panoramic views from the Sun Deck, a river cruise on the Moselle is a tonic for the soul and just what the doctor ordered.
