BUCHAREST TO VIENNA

Be enchanted with the visit to the Danube Delta, teeming with over 300 species of birdlife, and offering some of the region’s most beautiful backdrops before spilling into the famous Black Sea. From here on, the towns take on a subtly Eastern character. Cruise through the magnificent Iron Gates, visit historic city of Belgrade, and beautiful Croatia. Travel to Budapest – every bit as elegant as Vienna, and even more exotic. Finish your journey in Vienna, a city inspired by the great composers, and you’re likely to pick up the strains of a melody you recognise even while walking its quaint cobblestone streets.

Day 1 | Bucharest, Romania. Your journey into wonder begins here. Enjoy an overnight stay in Bucharest. (D)

Day 2 | Bucharest. Braila. Embark. Today you’ll leave Bucharest behind and transfer to your Scenic Space-Ship where you’ll be personally welcomed by your friendly dedicated staff. Relax and raise your glass to the days ahead at this evening’s welcome reception. (B,L,D)

Day 3 | Saint George, Bulgaria. Danube Delta. The World Heritage-listed Danube Delta is the best preserved of Europe’s deltas and hosts over 300 species of birds. Be sure to have your camera ready as you sail through the passage of Saint George and the magnificent Danube Delta, to reach the Black Sea coast. Admire spectacular scenery during your small boats cruise to Mile 0, where the mighty Danube River meets the Black Sea. (B,L,D)

Day 4 | Silistra. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Discover the Silistra Fort during an active walking tour, or journey to the nearby local village where you’ll visit the primary school and discover a few wonderful insights into daily life in Bulgaria.

Day 5 | Silistra. Vidin. As you cruise the mighty Danube relax in one of the lounges and viewing areas, and enjoy the scenery as your Scenic Space-Ship sails towards Vidin. (B,L,D)

Day 6 | Vidin. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Vidin. Alternatively, take a hike to the Belogradchik Fortress and discover the ruins of the ancient stronghold, which was constructed when the region was part of the Roman Empire. Or venture to a local winery for a tasting.

Day 7 | Iron Gates. Kostolac, Serbia. Upon arrival in Kostolac take a short drive to Viminacium and discover the ruins of Roman amphitheatres, hippodromes and mausoleums at this unique archaeological site. Dating back to the 1st century, and at its peak believed to have had 40,000 inhabitants, it was one of the biggest cities of its time. Later, relax on board and admire the scenery as you cruise the spectacular Iron Gates. (B,L,D)

Sundowners. Raise a toast to the end of a wonderful day in this scenic location.

Day 8 | Belgrade. Today you will discover one of the oldest capitals in Europe, Belgrade, a city that has always had a huge impact on the entire region. Tonight, enjoy a Serbian folklore performance on board your Scenic Space-Ship. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Join an in-depth city tour including a visit to Tito’s Memorial or take an orientation tour of the city before time at leisure.

Day 9 | Belgrade. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Enjoy a guided bicycle ride along the Danube, or taste your way around the local market on our Shop with a Chef tour. Or, for some true insights into local life, you can join a walking tour of the city with a local. Alternatively, journey to Sremski Karlovci, where you can wander the town with our experts and marvel at the many beautiful Baroque elements.

Day 10 | Osijek, Croatia. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Explore Osijek on a guided city tour, or if you’re the more active type, you could opt to take a blissful guided bike ride through Osijek’s countryside.

Enrich. As a Scenic guest, you’ll be invited into the home of a local family for a traditional home-cooked meal and the chance to discover what everyday life is really like in Croatia.

Day 11 | Mohacs, Hungary. Pecs. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Discover Pécs, a city of art and history. Alternatively, explore the village of Villány and learn about everyday life in Hungary, while sampling some of the fine local wines. Alternatively, tour Zsolnay Porcelain museum.

Day 12 | Kalocsa. Today you’ll get to witness a traditional Hungarian horse show. (B,L,D)

Day 13 | Budapest. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Join a guided tour through a city often considered the most beautiful in Europe, or if you are feeling active, you may wish to take a walking tour of the Buda side. Alternatively, discover the Jewish heritage with a local guide.

Enrich. Immerse yourself in Budapest’s imperial past by attending an exclusive private classical music concert at the majestic Gödöllõ Royal Palace. One of the favourite residence of Queen Elisabeth of Hungary, you’ll quickly come to appreciate why as you examine its many fabulous details up close.

Day 14 | Bratislava, Slovakia. (B,L,D) Freechoice. Explore Bratislava with a knowledgeable local guide and discover all that this majestic city has to offer. Alternatively, discover Bratislava’s communist-era history during a guided tour or enjoy a guided cycling excursion.

Day 15 | Vienna, Austria. (B,L,D)

Freechoice. Tour the city of Vienna, or be guided through majestic Schönbrunn Palace. Alternatively, take in the sights of the city on a guided bicycle tour or visit the world-renowned Spanish Riding School and either tour the stables or see the Lipizzaner Stallions perfecting their skills during their morning exercise program.

Day 16 | Vienna. After breakfast, prepare to head home. It may be the end of your cruise, but there’ll still be many wonderful memories to look forward to. (B)
